Our Story

Yard Bull Meats was born from the passion of two experienced culinary masters, who spent more than a seeking and acquiring quality products. What they discovered is - to truly get the best of the best you have create it yourself. Lucky for Roanoke, they chose our burgeoning culinary scene to finally launch their longtime dream of opening an old world craft butcher shop.


Chef Tyler Thomas developed his culinary passion working in kitchens in his hometown Charlottesville VA. His interest in whole animal butchery led him to a position at JM Stock Provisions where he honed his skills on the butcher block. Tyler moved to Roanoke in 2016 and made a mark for himself at River and Rail Restaurant where he currently mans the helm as Executive Chef.

Elliott Orwick spent 10 years in Western NC working in area restaurants and learning the craft of smoking meat as the Pitmaster at 12 Bones Smokehouse. He became Meat Processing and Food Safety Certified at SUNY College in 2011. After working as Head Butcher at Hickory Nut Gap Farm he moved to the valley to pursue his dream of opening a butcher shop.
